Critically Speaking
by Margaret B. Berman
Chicago, Ill. 60647
There’ll come a day, not far away,
In winter winds and snowing,
The cold will freeze my dripping sneeze,
Wherever I am going,
And I’ll remember, as I plow,
With white flakes melting on my brow,
Today’s grim, record-breaking heat,
That cooks the concrete in the street,
And I’ll forget the wintry blast,
Recalling spring and summer past,
The thoughts of which will warm my gizzard,
And I’ll step lively through the blizzard!
