In the first issue of The Alexander Rag, I told you a little bit about myself. In this issue I thought I’d talk about my print shop and some of the things I’ve done.

As I mentioned in number one, a 6 x 10 Kelsey is the back bone of my printing hobby. I also referred to a shortage of some important printing paraphernalia, something I’m hoping to correct in the near future. In the meantime, smaller pages hopefully will make the shortages seem like less of an emergency and make my job easier.

Despite all that, I once had a nice little business going. My nine styles of type in five cases was just enough to do some nifty looking business cards and letter heads. I also imprinted three part carbonless forms for a local business, which explains why some of this 8 pt type is a bit more worn out than the rest of it. Running a business got to be too much trouble after a while, and now I print only for my own enjoyment and once in a while for a friend or relative.

My biggest project so far has been the printing and painting of a game. First, I hand painted the game board on a small square table. The game is modeled after Monopoly, with name changes. For example, instead of Atlantic and Pacific Avenues, I have Titanic and Terrific. The Upper Slobovian & Western Railroad is on one side of the board, so naturally The Lower Slobovian & Eastern is on the other side.

Printing seven denominations of money in seven different colors wasn’t so bad, but printing the property deeds and the Give or Take and Free, Take One cards was quite a project since only one of each card was needed. I printed about ten copies of each anyway, in case a card was lost or damaged it could easily be replaced.

The Grand Fenwick Real Estate Game hasn’t been used much lately, but it’s still something I’m rather proud of.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all!
