A Patch of Old Snow
by Robert Frost
There’s a patch of old snow in a corner
That I should have guessed
Was a blow away paper the rain
Had brought to rest.
It is speckled with grime as if
Small print overspread it,
The news of a day I’ve forgotten –
If I ever read it.
As a result of my first efforts at publishing, I have received many nice cards and letters. I thank you.
Cold Facts
No doubt about it, this past winter was one of the worst in recent memory. Records were set in total amount of snow on the ground at one time, (34 inches) and consecutive days at or below freezing, (52). Every winter I swear I’m going to follow all those geese down to the sunny south. And maybe laugh out loud every time I hear that Wisconsin was hit with another blizzard. But then comes spring. And summer. And I realize that because of the past winter, I appreciate the warm months even more.
Rally Anyone?
Any sports car enthusiasts out there in Amateur Press Association land? I recently dug the old Triumph TR-4 out of a snow drift and am now ready for another season of top down cruising and rallying. It’s been a long winter!

Some day I’ll get my timing down. I mean getting a Spring is Here edition in May and wishing everyone Happy Holidays sometime in February is missing the boat – by about a month. Speaking of mistakes, did anyone notice the pair of left hands pointing to the poems about my right hand in the last issue of The Rag? I will be sure to print the correct hands in this or a future issue!
Play Ball!
Another sure sign of spring is the beginning of another baseball season. There is nothing as enjoyable to me as a sunny Sunday afternoon at the old ball park. My favorite major league team, the Milwaukee Brewers, look like they’ll be a real contender in the American League again this year, and that should make summer that much more enjoyable.
